I spent this past weekend participating in formal recruitment to join a sorority at my school, Loyola Marymount University. Our formal recruitment is slightly different from many colleges, since we rush in the spring and the process occurs over the course of 3 days instead of an entire week. This is due in part to the fact that we do not have sorority houses on campus, but Greek life is still a huge part of LMU. We currently have 6 established sororities and 1 new sorority joining our campus this semester, and they are all great chapters.
On Friday the 500+ girls who participated (which was a LOT) attended each of the 7 sororities. I wore a Free People blouse, J brand jeans, and Sam Edelman booties since it was fairly casual dress. On Saturday we were asked back between 0-4 chapters to go see again. The attire was “snappy casual” and I wore a shift dress from Topshop and Steve Madden booties. Sunday was pref day, and most girls went back to 1-2 chapters. I was deciding between Kappa Alpha Theta and Alpha Phi and both held very special pref ceremonies. After 3 long days of talking to hundreds of girls and almost losing my voice, the last day was bittersweet. Below is a picture of some of my best friends and I dressed up for pref day. I wore a Free People Dress and Steve Madden heels (far right).
On Sunday night we had to rank our top choice, and I knew Kappa Alpha Theta was where I wanted to call home. The following night was Bid Night and I was ecstatic when I received a bid from Theta. After everyone got their bids, we ran to our chapters and were welcomed by the older members. We got to meet tons of people and have a dance party with our new sisters. My pledge class has 61 new members and I cannot wait to get to know everyone. This was one of the longest, most exhausting weekends, but I am so excited to be a part of Kappa Alpha Theta.
Here are some pictures from Bid Night!
